How can I add a New Stay to my calendar?

Adding a new stay in wheriz is as simple as follows.

See also How to add a New Event to your calendar?

1)What. Go to Manage/My Plans at the main menu.

Then you’ll be able to create either a “New Stay” or a “New Event”. If, for example, I want to add a "usual" stay in my hometown for the next, let's say, two years. Later, you can edit and overwrite it, as you will see. Thus, you will select the option “New Stay”.

2) Where. Type the location of the Stay you’re planning (for example: Via Augusta 10, Badalona). You type here where you want to go, and Google and geonames will find it, almost for sure. The map will show you the location you entered with a red arrow. Then, you can also move the map manually to re-locate the place you want to choose. Remember that the location you will select as your New Stay is what is centred on the map.

2 bis) Remember you can also type the name you want to show in your New Stay at “type in the location” (for example: Home).

3) When. Add the start and the end of your New Stay as you wish. If you move the end to something like 2013, this will be the, your usual location. Remember you will be able to overwrite while updating your calendar.

4) Who. To end the adding of a New Stay, you have to mark the visibility and privacy. You can set it as public (all wheriz and non-wheriz users will be able to see your stay). Otherwise, by changing into the expert mode, you will be able to decide which contacts (tagged or individually) can see your New Stay.

5) Submit. Click on Submit to update your calendar with your defined New Stay or Cancel to delete all that you’ve done in the steps before.

When an overlap is detected, you have the available options depicted. You would choose overwrite if, for example, your initial stay is Badalona but you will be in Madrid some few days, and then you’ll back to Badalona again.

Done! Now you have added a New Stay in your calendar. Now all the wheriz contacts you selected will be able to visualize matches if they are around you during the same days.

Use also the Facebook App if you want to update automatically your Status when you change into another stay.

Why is the map empty?

Some reasons might be behind this situation:

  • you don't have any contact nor are subscribed to any group
  • your contacts haven't assigned you visibility on their plans
  • there are no matches in the time range and the geopgraphic zone selected
  • you haven't updated your location for that period of time
  • you are not showing your own data

What wheriz flow is?

The wheriz flow lists all the recent activities from your contacts, groups you manage, groups you are subscribed to and also from those plans you have either posted a comment or set your RSVP.

There is also another wheriz flow at user and group level that shows only the actions of the given user. You can find it under the 'flow' tab.

This way it's far more easy to see new plans from your contacts or get updates about the attendance of some plan.

You can assign visibility tags for each stay or event of your own (or from a group you manage). These tags are the same ones that are used with the contacts. If you want a contact to see your plan you should assign to that plan at least one tag of the assigned tags that your contact has. At any time the assigned tags of a plan or contact can be updated so the visibility may result affected.

What should I do first?

Of course you entered wheriz by means of your contact’s invitation. The first thing you should do is accept or reject this invitation in the section Other people that have invited me of the tab My contacts. When you accept this invitation your contact and you will be related in wheriz and you will be able to share information about your events and stays.

The next step is to begin to enter information about your trips and events in the tab My plans, and to see possible future coincidences with your contacts in the tab Home.

When you have your first contact with one or more assigned tags you can inform the system about where you are now [localization] or where you are going to be in the future [stays] going to the tab ‘My plans’. After pushing the button ‘Add a new trip’, there will appear a form for providing the details of the stay. The information provided consists on marking the geographic spot, time range that you will be in that place including the according time zone and a description. The edition ends with the tags assignment previously mentioned. Only the contacts to which you have assigned these tags will be able to see the stay.
If your contact has let you see his/her location, when going back to 'Home' it will appear.

The more contacts and group subscriptions you have, the bigger profit you will get from wheriz as you will see them all on the map and calendar.
The visibility your contacts will have of your information is defined with the tags. The tags are descriptors of your contacts and also define the visibility of your stays and events against your contacts.

The tags have the double usage of describing your contacts and allowing you to manage the information of your profile that they will see. Therefore, you can create group tags [family, friends, work] or for an individual [mum, John Smith] and assign them altogether to a contact. Any tag can be assigned to as many contacts as you wish and at any time can be combined with any other tags for a single contact.

What is a group?

Groups are a structure made up of users managed by at least one administrator. There are up to three types of groups: public, private and invisible.

The public groups are the ones that allow a single person or an organization to broadcast the information about the group and its events' agenda. The users can freely subscribe to those agendas and the events matching with their stays will be shown as well as those events matching an ondemand search on time and space. The customer is brought closer to the organization as he can visualize easily where and when the activities will take place. The administrators of the public groups know the impact of them by the figures of amount of subscribers they have. The detailed list of the subscribed users will not be provided. This kind of groups are focused on organizations that want to show their own events such as professional fairs, concert venues, festivals, brans with promotional events, music band tours, etc..

The private groups are listed in public and any user can request a membership. This groups require the request to be accepted by one of the group's administrator in order to become a member. Members of the group can coordinate themselves by sharing their stays and being a platform to support events of the organization which only the members are allowed to see. Being a member of a private group does not imply to have any visibility on the user's profile of any other member of the same group. This group is mostly used by associations, collectives and organizations interested on managing internal meetings and foresee where their resources will be at as well as using it as an internal communications channel among other uses.

The invisible groups are not listed in public as they don't search any awareness nor they want anyone to request membership. This kind of groups know closely their members and the are the administrators who send out the invitations to the to-be members. The rest of the functionalities for these groups are the same as the ones available for private groups. Invisible groups are thought to be used by companies and organizations to manage their resources, manage meetings or exclusive events, etc..
